Final Celebratory Event 19th Nov 2024

December 10, 2024

Community Event in Kilcoole

On Tuesday 19th November, over 50 people came together locally in Kilcoole to mark the installation of the Tern the Tide sculpture at Kilcoole Train station and launch the project website.

This Final Celebratory Event was an opportunity for locals to learn more about the local Socially Engaged Artwork which took place over 2024, and led to a final upcycled artwork.

At the event local workshop participant Aisling McNamara kicked off the talks by recited her beautiful poem 'Tern the Tide' created following taking part in the project - which will feature on Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail services, advertising for the project set to be installed from late November 2024 onwards, and the project documentary commissioned by Iarnród Éireann and produced by Adrian Brett, ClickZoom was screened for the first time.

Presentations from Project Participants

Brian Burke of BirdWatch Ireland shared about their ongoing work in conservation of Little Terns. The Artists involved presented on the background to their artwork and creative process, and key project partners Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail discussed their contribution, including a presentation by Jayne Ryan, Ecologist - on their wider biodiversity programme as well as her expertise applied to the sculpture site which will see pollinators growing in Spring 2025.

There was also the opportunity to see some of the artwork created by local workshop participants as part of the free adult creative workshops which took place across June 2024, inspired by the Kilcoole Little Tern.
